Captain Rolf Wittmer is the first man whose birth on Floreana Island has been historically documented. He was born in January 1933, a few months after his parents, Margret and Heinz Wittmer ended a long trip from Germany to the island of Floreana.

MYTHIC VOLCANOES

DAY 01: Pick up from your hotel at 07:00. We will take the Ruta Viva Highway towards Papallacta. We will walk through the forest to observe the flora and fauna inside the Antisana Ecological Reserve, which is part of the 10 “hot zones” of the world because it forms and ecological corridor between Cayambe-Coca National Park and Sumaco National Park; this is why this reserve has a high biodiversity. The Antisana Volcano has an altitude of 19000 fts over the sea level, snowcapped all year around. This is the nesting place for the Andean Condor, star hummingbird and spectacled bear.

Lunch at Sierra Azul Ecological Reserve. In the afternoon we will walk in the cloud forest.

Dinner and accommodation at Guango Lodge.

DAY 02: Early in the morning, walk through the trails to enjoy of several species of hummingbirds, tangaras, toucans, flight catchers, and more of Guango Lodge fauna. Breakfast. Then we will depart towards Cotopaxi National Park taking the Pintag highway to enjoy the Andean landscape. Entrance to the National Park, the volcano has an altitude of 19400 ft over the sea level, this is one of the highest volcanoes over the world. Visit to the Recreational Area of Boliche, walk around the Limpiopungo Lake. Lunch in one of the hosterias. Return to Quito at 16:30 approximately.

** ADDITIONAL: Visitor could complete this program with an excursion to the Quilotoa Volcano, with one night of accommodation in a lovely local guest house.
